Immunization Records

 

Physicians advise that a Tetanus Booster be given every ten years.  Most colleges require that students have the Tetanus immunization prior to the student enrolling in college.  Your child can be immunized at the Knox County Immunization Clinic for a nominal fee.  Please call the clinic at 882-8700 for an appointment.  You can also choose to have your child receive the necessary immunizations with your family doctor.  All students
at Rivet Middle/High School are required to submit
up-to-date immunization records.

Finding the right college for you, is a big decision.  Listed below are questions
that you can ask to help you in making that college choice.  Be sure to take a
campus tour, attend a class, eat a meal on campus, and read the most
recent issues of the campus newspaper.

Academic  Questions
- What do faculty expect of students?
- In what ways do faculty challenge students to excel?
- How much time do students spend on homework each week?
- What types of assignments are given (research, etc.)?
- How much writing is expected?
- How much reading is assigned per class?
- What percentage of classes is taught by teaching assistants (TAs)?
- Who is doing the grading (professor or teaching assistants)?
- Must all students study Western history and literature?
- Is there a true core curriculum made up of required courses across the liberal arts and sciences that all students must take?  OR  do you instead rely on distribution requirements that allow students to pick and choose from among numerous courses within a given discipline?

Scholarships

Seniors may pick-up applications in the Guidance Office for the following
scholarships - or when listed obtain an application on-line.

Seniors and parents - pay close attention to deadlines.

Alpha Phi Omega Outstanding Student Scholarship – Student must be enrolled at Purdue University for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.  A one time award of $500.  Deadline around April 1st.

American Society for Quality – Evansville-Owensboro Section 0915 – A one-time award of $500.  Deadline around April 1st

Crane Chapter of Blacks in Government – Available to African-American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian/Pacific Islander-Americans, and Hispanic-American students planning to attend college in the fall.  Deadline around April 15th

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and WTHI - A new scholarship program called Top 10 on 10.  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and WTHI will award 10 - $10,000 scholarships for next school year to female high school seniors in the WTHI viewing area.  From the ten scholarship winners that are named throughout the year, two students will be chosen to receive full-tuition scholarships to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.  Deadline for each month's competition is the first Friday of each month. 

Indiana  Association  of  Orthodontists  Scholarship  Contest   Any college-bound Indiana high school senior who completes a one-page essay entitled, "The Benefits of a Healthy Smile", completes a single data page, and submits them with a photograph is eligible for the scholarship.  There will be a total of nine $500 scholarship winners over northern, central, and southern Indiana.  Deadline is usually around February 14th

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution  Applicants must be citizens of the
United States and must plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
            American History Scholarship  A scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each year
            up to four years will be awarded to a graduating seniors who will be majoring in
             American History.  Deadline around February 1st.

            Enid Hall Griswold Memorial Scholarship   One time scholarship of $1,000
            awarded to graduating senior who will be majoring in Political Science, History,
           Government or Economics.  Deadline around February 15th.

            Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship   One time $500 scholarship to student who
            will attend an accredited school of nursing.  Deadline around February 15th.

            Irene and Daisy MacGregor Scholarship   A $5,000 scholarship awarded for
            up to four years to students who have been accepted into or are pursuing an approved
           course of study to become a medical doctor at an approved, accredited medical school
           Deadline around April 15th.

            Alice W. Rooke Scholarship  A $5,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to
            students who are pursuing an approved course of study to become a medical doctor
            at an approved, accredited medical school.  Deadline around April 15th.

            Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship  A $2,000 scholarship awarded for up to four
            years to sons and daughters of members of the National Society Daughters of the
            American Revolution.  Deadline around February 15th.

            Madeline Picket Halbert Cogswell Nursing Scholarship   One time $500 scholarship
            awarded to student who will be attending an accredited school of nursing.  Applicant
            must be either member of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution,
           descendant of members, or are eligible to be members.  Deadline around February 15th.

 

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program  One time $1,500 scholarship will be 
awarded to graduating senior that:  is a high school senior in United States; family is actively engaged in production agriculture; a member of their family is not employed by Farm Bureau or Monsanto Company; have combined SAT scores of at least 850; plan to attend either a two- or four-year college Fall 2004; and will be pursuing a career in agriculture.  Deadline around February 15th.

WFIE  Leadership Scholarship  One time $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Deadline around February 17th.

Indiana State University Scholarship  One time $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to major in Education.  Deadline February around 21st.

 American Legion Post 73 Scholarship  One time scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior that has:  been accepted by a college, university or technical school to pursue a higher degree; must be a descendant or a dependent of a member of the American Legion Post 73; submit a resume; submit a statement of educational goals; and submit an official transcript
Deadline February around 21st.

 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1157 Scholarship    One time scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior that has:  been accepted by a college, university or technical school to pursue a higher degree; must be a descendant or a dependent of a member of the VFW Post 1157; submit a resume; submit a statement of educational goals; and submit an official transcript.
Deadline February around 21st.

 Illiana Watermelon Queen Scholarship Pageant   Any young lady between 18 and 23 and reside anywhere in Indiana and Illinois is eligible.  A one time $1,000 scholarship to the school of your choice; $500 wardrobe allowance; and paid promotional appearances.  Application deadline is February around 24th.

 Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Nursing and Allied Health Scholarships  Applicant must be either:  full or part-time employee of GSH; be a dependent of a GSH employee; be a volunteer through GSH Volunteer Department of Hospice Program with a minimum of 100 volunteer hours in current year; or be a teen volunteer in GSH Teen Volunteer Program with minimum of 25 hours.  Applicant must provide documentation of acceptance to the health care program at Vincennes University.  Application deadline is February around 28th.

 Dorothy M. Walters Scholarship   This scholarship will provide full tuition, fees, books, room and board at Vincennes University for two years; then additional scholarship funds will be available for two additional years at the college/university of student's choice.  Application deadline is around March 1st.

Children of Vincennes University Alumni Scholarship  Parent or legal guardian must have attended Vincennes University.  One time scholarship - amount varies.  Application
Deadline is around March 1st.

 Vincennes University Scholarships   Various Scholarships.  Scholarship booklet is available either at Vincennes University or at Rivet.  Application deadline is around March 1st.

 Vincennes Kiwanis Scholarship   One time $1,000 scholarship to a student who is planning to attend Vincennes University for Fall.  Deadline around March 31st.

 Indiana State University Education Scholarships
            Marian George Memorial Teaching Scholarship  Variable amounts up to $5,000
            for students majoring in education.  Deadline around March 7th.

            Pansy Walker Scholarships   $1,500 scholarship that is renewable.  Must have SAT
            Score of 1010 or ACT composite score of 21.  For students who will be majoring
            in Education.  Deadline around March 7th.

             Adams Urban Teacher Scholarships  $500 scholarship and is renewable.  Student
             must graduate from an urban high school or be committed to working in the
            diverse urban schools.  Deadline around March 7th.

            Ray and Adelaide Hahn Memorial Scholarship  $500 scholarship and renewable.
            For a student who will be an ISU student and is one of at least three children in his/her
            family, a resident of Indiana or Illinois and intends to major in Education with a
            career objective to teach.  Deadline around March 7th.

 Minority Teacher and Special Education Teacher  $1,000 scholarship and renewable.  Student must be minority defined as Black or Hispanic or a student seeking a Special Education teaching certification; or a student seeking an Occupational or Physical Therapy certification. 

 Nursing Scholarship Fund  Applicant must be an Indiana resident; be admitted to an approved college/university as a full-time or part-time nursing student; and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. 

Indiana State Teachers Association Educator Scholarship   $1,000 scholarship.  For student who is a dependent of a current member of ISTA and who is pursuing a teaching license.  Must be a graduating high school senior.  Deadline around March 7th.

 Indiana State Teachers Association Career Scholarship  $1,000 renewable scholarship.  For student who is a dependent of a current member of ISTA.  Based upon academic achievement and leadership.  Deadline around March 7th.

 Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution   One time $500 scholarship.  Applicant must be a citizen of United States and will attend a college/university within Indiana.  Need not be a member of DAR.  Deadline around March 15th.

 University of Southern Indiana Scholarship    Alumni Association Leadership Award.  One time $1,000 scholarship.  Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, show leadership qualities,  and must be in the upper 20% of graduating class.   Deadline around April 1st.

Indiana Sheriffs' Association Scholarship   One time $500 scholarship.  Applicants must be Indiana resident; committed to pursuing an education and career in law enforcement at an Indiana college or university; must be a member of Indiana Sheriffs' Association; and applicants must have taken either the SAT or ACT.  Deadline around April 1st.

 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship   Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; be a resident of Indiana; be a graduating high school senior; have a minimum SAT score of 1300 or ACT composite of 29; have a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale; and be admitted as a full-time student for college for Fall.  Deadline around April 25th.

 Vincennes Elks – Vocational Grant – Available to those students who will be pursuing a two year degree or less.  Deadline around January 1st.

 Most Valuable Student Scholarship – Elks.  Visit www.elks.org or contact local Elks Lodge.  Deadline mid-January.

 ENF Legacy Awards – Visit www.elks.org or contact local Elks Lodge.  Student must be a child, grandchild, step-child or step-grandchild of an Elk member.  Deadline mid-November.

Eagle Scout Scholarship – Must be a registered Eagle Scout and high school senior.  Visit www.scouting.org/nesa/scholar.  Deadline – mid-February.

 Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship – Must be a Girl Scout Gold Award winner and high school senior.  Visit http://jfg.girlsscouts.org.  Application available in January.

 Gamma Zeta Chapter of Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, Inc. – Must attend Vincennes University.  Award is $500.  Deadline around April 1st.

 Gates Millennium Scholars – highly competitive program for students of high academic achievement and leadership potential.  Visit www.gmsp.org.   Deadline around February 1st.

 Indiana Conservation Officers Scholarship – for Conservation and Law Enforcement majors only.  Award amount is $500.  Deadline around March 1st.

 Indiana Coal Mining Institute, Inc. – for students in pursuit of a career in the mining industry.  Award amount is $1,000.  Deadline around mid-April.

 Indiana Nursery Endowment Fund – for students in pursuit of a career in landscape horticulture.  Award amount is $500.  Deadline around mid-May.

 Knights of Columbus – student’s parents must be a member of Knights of Columbus Council 712.  Applications available at Knights of Columbus.  Deadline is mid-April.

 Knox County Sheriff Reserve Scholarship – available to any high school senior, based primarily on financial need and secondarily on scholastic record.  Deadline around mid-March.

 Lilly Endowment Scholarship – student must be a high school senior with a 3.5 gpa.  Deadline around February 1st.

 Richard Lugar Minority Scholarship – student must be a high school senior (African American, Hispanic, or Native American).  Deadline around December 1st.

 Mensa Education and Research Foundation Local Scholarship Program – Awards based on essay.  Deadline around January 1st.

 Mercedes-Benz USA Scholarship Program – student must have a gpa of 3.0 or higher.  Student must also be the first in family to attend college.  Visit www.MBUSA.com/drivefuture.  Deadline is around March 31st.

 Friends of NRA Foundation – Essay competition – open to juniors and seniors.  Deadline around May 1st.

 Sister Helene Scholarship – Must be a Rivet Senior.  Student must maintain a “B” average.  Deadline around April 30th.

Beta Sigma Phi - Xi Delta Chapter Scholarship - Awards a VU scholarship in the amount of $400 to a female who will attend VU full time.  Deadline around May 1st.

Vincennes Civitan Club - Scholarship for the sum of $600 for a senior who will be attending Vincennes University for the next academic school year.  Applicants are judged on financial need, academic ability, and involvement in school and community activities.  Deadline around mid-May.

 Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous – Graduating senior who plans to attend Vincennes University is eligible.  Deadline around April 1st.

 Computer Integrated Manufacturing Industrial Maintenance Scholarship funded through Toyota – student must attend Vincennes University for Fall.  Deadline around mid-April.

 Hoosier Scholar Award – Selected by faculty and staff at Rivet.  Award amount is $500. Deadline around March 1st.

 Knox County Farm Bureau Scholarships – Student must pursue Agriculture or Agriculture related field and parents of applicant must be a Farm Bureau member.  Deadline around mid-April.

Polk-Decker Scholarship – Student must attend Vincennes University for two years then transfer to another college/university.  Award is around $3,000 per year for four years.  Deadline around
mid-April.

Rotary – Vincennes Club – Student must attend Vincennes University in Fall after high school graduation.  Faculty and Staff at Rivet select recipient.  Deadline around May 1st.

Rotary – Charles R. Cronenwett Academic Scholarship – Student must have a 3.5 GPA and have plans of enrolling at a college/university in fall after high school graduation.  Award amount of $1,000.  Deadline is around May 1st.
